Aside from the lush textures of the Orchestre Symphonique Europeén on two tracks, Live In Paris finds Diana Krall getting back to basics, reveling in the intimate mysteries of melody and expression backed by masterful and sympathetic musicians. The repertoire is vintage Krall, touching on choice ballads from the Great American Songbook by Cole Porter, George Gershwin, and others - and also includes sensitive versions of more contemporary tunes by Joni Mitchell and Billy Joel. The latter‚ Just The Way You Are‚ is a high point, including a solo for the ages by tenor saxophone maestro Michael Brecker.
