James Francies (born 1995) is an American keyboardist, composer and bandleader, whose masterful playing technique and blend of jazz, hip-hop, soul and classical music explores hidden emotional depths.

Francies was born in Houston and showed prodigal artistry on the piano. Studying in Houston and later in New York, Francies joined Pat Metheny’s trio and saxophonist Chris Potter’s group. Around this time, he also met drummer Questlove and keyboardist James Poyser, which led to a series of television appearances and shows with The Roots, including the musical “Hamilton”. 2018 saw Francies’ recording debut as leader on Blue Note, and his second album “Purest Form” saw guest appearances from vibraphonist Joel Ross, sax player Immanuel Wilkins and singer Bilal.
