A year into her tenure as the crown jewel of the Verve Records roster, 1957's Like Someone in Love was a marked departure from Ella Fitzgerald's already prolific output for the label, all of which was themed around the "song book" of a particular writer or taken from sessions with singer/trumpeter Louis Armstrong. Drawn from two sessions at the legendary Capitol Studios in Hollywood, with Norman Granz serving as producer and Frank DeVol conducting, Like Someone in Love spotlights balladry from across the songwriting spectrum, from The Great American Songbook to Broadway and beyond. Highlights include “There’s a Lull in My Life,” “More Than You Know” and “Midnight Sun,” the latter of which is one of four tracks featuring Stan Getz on tenor saxophone.
