Blue Note, 1967

Pianist, composer, and Blue Note legend Horace Silver continued to scale the pinnacle of hard bop on his 1957 album The Stylings Of Silver, the inspired follow-up to 6 Pieces Of Silver. The album featured his swinging quintet with Art Farmer on trumpet, Hank Mobley on tenor saxophone, Teddy Kotick on bass, and Louis Hayes on drums delivering an assured 6-song set that introduced five enduring Silver originals including “No Smokin’,” “Soulville,” and “Home Cookin’.” Silver showcases his arranging skills on the album closer, a stunning version of the standard “My One And Only Love.”
