Arooj Aftab grew up in Lahore, where she was one of the first artists to use the Internet, helping launch Pakistan’s nascent indie scene. She moved to the US to study music production, and her mix of neo-Sufi and Western musical tropes has won her popular and critical acclaim. In 2022, she won the Best Global Music Performance award for “Mohabbat” from her third studio album “Vulture Prince”. She lives in New York working as part of the city’s jazz scene and also writes scores for films.
