Growing up in Detroit, LaVette scored her first R&B hit in 1963 at the age of sixteen. But her unique take on soul and blues garnered renewed interest after the release of a long-lost album some 40 years later. Since then LaVette’s resurgent career has blossomed – it’s seen her top the billboard charts, as well as record deeply personal interpretations of songs by Bob Dylan, and a collection of songs by progressive women of the 1950s.
