Eric Dolphy (1928–1964) was a seminal figure in avant-garde jazz. He was best known for his work on the alto saxophone, bass clarinet, and flute.
His unique approach to harmony and rhythm was marked by wide intervallic leaps. Dolphy played with luminaries like Charles Mingus, Ron Carter, and John Coltrane, and his solo work produced highly regarded albums such as "Out to Lunch" and “Far Cry”. Dolphy's prodigious talent was cut short by his untimely death 1964 in Berlin, yet his influence continues to resonate with forward-thinking jazz fans to this day.
