Cole grew up in Halifax, Nova Scotia before moving to Toronto and forming a trio with bassist David Piltch and pianist Aaron Davis. The trio achieved success with festive holiday albums and versions of songs by Tom Waits and Elvis Costello, and in particular Johnny Nash’s “I Can See Clearly Now.” The trio’s minimal arrangements leave plenty of space for Cole’s smoky vocals, although they have also recorded albums with larger ensembles and orchestration. Cole has acted on the small and big screen as well, and continues to tour regularly.
