Redman was born in Oakley, the son of famed free jazz sax player Dewey Redman. After graduating from Harvard, he moved to New York and was immediately immersed in the city’s jazz scene. His debut album garnered critical acclaim, and the sophomore album “Wish” featured guitarist Pat Metheny, drummer Billy Higgins and bassist Charlie Haden. Redman’s mix of free jazz with soul, blues and rock has found a wide audience, and has seen him collaborate with The Bad Plus, as well as long-running band mates Christian McBride, Brian Blade and Brad Mehldau.
