Kandace Springs

Springs was born in Nashville, the daughter of noted session vocalist Scat Springs, who taught her piano and introduced her to singers like Luther Vandross and Nina Simone. After Prince heard Springs’ cover of Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me”, he invited her to Paisley Park, and became a mentor to the young singer. Springs was signed by the production team Sturken and Rogers, known for discovering Rihanna, and a couple of years later, she impressed Blue Note president Don Was with a version of Bonnie Raith’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me.” Springs’ 2018 album “Indigo” was produced by drummer Karriem Riggins, and saw Springs weave soul, jazz, R&B and hip-hop into a deeply personal narrative.
