Madlib (born 1973) is an American rapper, producer and multi-instrumentalist, known for his prolific output and insatiable record collecting.

Madlib

Born Otis Jackson Jr. in Oxnard, California, Madlib first gained recognition as part of hip-hop crew Lootpack. His iconic Quasimoto debut “The Unseen” and collaborative projects with MF DOOM and J Dilla have gone down in underground hip-hop folklore. His Yesterday’s New Quintet project saw him play all the instruments on a free-spirited soul-jazz record. In 2003 Blue Note opened the vaults and gave Madlib free rein to rework their catalogue on the collection “Shades Of Blue.” With his “Medicine Show” and “Beat Konducta” series, Madlib continues to explore the wider spectrum of what jazz-inspired hip-hop can be.
