Aldana was born in Santiago, and her father is Chilean sax player Marcos Aldana. She began on alto but switched to tenor after hearing Sonny Rollins. After meeting pianist Danilo Perez, Aldana was invited to the US for tutelage, where she attended Berklee in Boston and studied with Joe Lovano and Greg Osby, among others. A couple of years later, she made history as the first woman and first South American to win the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition. Since then Aldana has toured and recorded as part of her trio and quartet, as well as Crash Trio and the sextet Artemis, and released her debut for Blue Note, “12 Stars”, in 2022.
