Pat Metheny (born 1954) is an American jazz guitarist and composer, whose contributions have transcended jazz fusion and influenced players in every genre.
With a career spanning over four decades, Metheny is known to masterfully blend elements of jazz, rock, Latin, and Brazilian music. His best known outfit is the Pat Metheny Group, which became a staple for labels like ECM and Geffen. However, throughout his career, Metheny has collaborated with a diverse range of musicians, from Jaco Pastorius to Jim Hall, Herbie Hancock to Milton Nascimento, and Steve Reich to David Bowie. Accordingly, his accolades are not constricted to any genre – he famously won 20 Grammys in 12 different categories.
