The British trio was comprised of saxophonist Shabaka Hutchings – operating under the alias King Shabaka –, keyboardist Danalogue and drummer Betamax. With their unique blend of otherworldly esounds and high-energy showcases, The Comet is Coming expanded on the afrofuturist legacy of Sun Ra, mixing themes of real-life politics and social consciousness with outer space escapism and a raucous sound that owes as much to the jazz heritage as it does to the club dancefloor. In 2024 the group announced a hiatus.
